In spirit of yesterday ESPN article on the pickle we thought we would share with you how to escape it.
First, understand that more times than not you will be out but the most important thing not to do is go outside the baseline (arms length on each side of the defender). This is a guaranteed out.
How to win:
1. Stay in the pickle until the other runners can advance or score.
2. Get the defender to throw the ball as many times as possible and run at the defenders glove before changing direction. This is so the ball will hit you in the back of the head.
3. Run into a defender in the your way. As you can not leave the base path they can not be in it either. This is interference.
4. Get the defenders up to as much speed as possible. Then right before the tag, drop to your belly. This will keep you inside the base path but the defender must jump over you or he will trip. Pop back up and head for a base. This also aids the other base runners due to the fact it is a more difficult tag.
