I’m sure you have seen a player stair at his bat and take a deep breath before entering the batters box. It’s becoming more common these days. This ritual actually has a purpose.
The breath is simple to relax the heart. Relaxing the heart relaxes the body. A relaxed body moves faster and focus is obtained when tension is eliminated. To train this change your training to breathes not reps.
The starring at the bat is to set the eyes to the right setting. Everyday we operate in a soft focus mode. This mode allows us the see everything around us. The problem when it comes to baseball is that we need to be in a hard focus mode in order to see a high-speed ball.
To do this, simply locate a small spot (writing or symbol) on your bat. You can usually find it in the middle of the label. Stair at this for a second, then step in the box. You will be amazed how big the ball gets.
Know the Why.
