The majority of the world believes the game of baseball is a game between two teams battling it out in the field. That wonderful romance when a pitcher tries to beat the hitter or the hitter vs. an enemy of 9.
This belief unfortunately has been the doom of many players in history because this thought leads to fear, blame, distraction and the false source of their failures. In reality, the game of baseball is the battle between a player and a ball- nothing else.
The ball is the enemy, the true opponent not the person wearing a different jersey than you. Once the player lets go or makes contact they are no longer in control of its fate. They cannot make it stop in mid flight to the plate. They do not defeat you- the ball does. They are having a battle with the ball themselves. They can’t make you not swing when they throw a bad pitch or stop before you get to first because the bobbled it.
The baseball is the meanest object in sports. It seeks out the unprepared, the unfocused, and the lazy. Its goal is simply to embarrass you.
