Our Philosophy
The average player stops playing the game at 13 years old. We believe this is do to results based thinking. The typical college player quits after his first year because he does not know how to hustle while he waits (sit the bench).
“Trust the Process.” A phrase, which you will hear us say time and time again. Allowing the things you cannot control (wins/ loses, batting average, teammate errors) to affect your viewpoint on the game. This is a quick road to frustration and eventually termination.
Players must control the controllables. Getting a hit or wining a game is not controllable yet players and parents believe it is and place a lot of pressure on themselves and their children because of it.
Here are some examples.
Your son is the starting pitcher and throws six shut out innings but has met his pitch limit. The reliever comes in and gives up a two run homerun to lose the game. Is that your sons fault? No. Did he play bad? Absolutely not. Since you lost the game does that mean you are not a good player? Of course not. Then why do most players and parents respond, as it is a yes?
Example number two. You hit a ball 400 Foot shot but the outfielder makes a leaping catch as the ball is headed over the fence. Does that mean you are a bad hitter since you did not get a hit? Most players do. Resulting in hours in the cage changing their swing. Did you have a bad at bat? Absolutely not. The defensive player made a great play. Did you hit the ball hard? Yes you did and that is all we can ask for.
This is why we believe in the process. You cannot control the uncontrollable but you can control your process. Exchange batting average for Quality at Bats to determine your success for the day. Exchange the Freebie War for a Win or Loss to determine how the team played that day.
Baseball is an individual sport based around a team concept. You must do your job first before worrying about others. Measurement = Motivation.

Our Approach
We believe the original creation travel ball, make players better is lost. At Tomahawk you are going to get developed. As a program we are not going to be afraid to experiment with our players training. We are not going to hit infield/outfield, batting practice on the field, or scrimmage everyday. We are going to strive to get the most growth out of a player, while practicing as a group, during on single season. Our focus is not how many games we can play, even though there will be plenty, but the training. GET BETTER. Period.
As a coaching staff we don’t rely on our egos or our old playing days, we research, innovate, and develop ourselves as much as we expect our kids to. We prepare our kids for the next level up not the current one. Our young guys are training for high school, our high school for college, our college for pros, and our pros to separate from the pack. We want to create special players not normal ones who get lost in the shuffle. No one pays millions of dollars to normal players.

What you will get from us
You are getting a group of coaches with a passion for the game and their ego checked at the door. We believe in the player first. It is our job to further HIS career not ours. We give 100% to our players and expect it in return.
We are going to attach our players development from all angles. Mechanical, Physical, and mental. We believe the mental is what ends careers and we try to prepare them for what is to come. Want a taste of our approach check out Brain Cain or Ken Ravissa. The shadow guys for almost every championship team, including the Cubs.

What you will not get from us
For games we teach, we won’t manipulate. Even though we are trying to win were are not concerned with the trophy. Trophies are results based training and we are only concerned with the process.
You are not going to see your son throw 120 pitches or throw twice in one weekend. He will never throw over 80. Ever. Not per game but per week. Even if it cost us a championship.
